Inspectors pay school ‘the highest compliment’

AN INDEPENDENT school has earned top marks from school inspectors.

Roselyon Preparatory School at Par, Mid-Cornwall, has been deemed outstanding in a report by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

School chiefs said it was the highest compliment the school could ever receive.

Roselyon's Head said: “The report is notable for the number of times – at least half a dozen – the word ‘outstanding’ is used to describe the standards reached.

“Outstanding” is the highest compliment that a school can receive in this context.

“It’s a super report – one that any school in the country would be thrilled with – and we are all immensely proud”.

“It speaks volumes for the children’s hard work and the great dedication of our staff”.

In their report, the inspectors said “a significant proportion” of the teaching at Roselyon was outstanding.

The same verdict applied to the ICT skills used by pupils of all ages, as well as for the quality of care provided by staff to ensure pupils’ health, safety and welfare at every stage.

The report praised Roselyon as “particularly strong in the way that it encourages pupils to learn independently”.

It said: “Great care is taken in lessons to ensure that pupils of all abilities receive appropriate support and challenge.

“Excellent links have been developed with parents and the community, which enhance the ‘family feel’ of the school”.

Roselyon’s particular strengths were also said to include the way in which pupils can develop their creative and artistic skills and the extensive programme of educational visits which greatly enriches pupils’ personal development.

Pupils also achieved “High standards” in speaking, listening and writing, with the report also noting: “A  palpable sense of enjoyment pervades all activities in which they are involved.  They enjoy their education and are proud of their school”.
