Our next Open Morning is on 18 May

On Saturday 18 May 2019, we warmly invite you to visit Roselyon and see for yourself what our independent prep school in Cornwall is really like.

At our second Open Morning in our new home in Lanlivery, you can follow our educational trail around our fantastic site,  so you will have the chance to see our wonderful new classrooms and fabulous outdoor learning environment – complete with adventure activity centre, woodlands, lakelands, and even our resident pigs!

There will be lots to see and do,  and staff, governors, parents and pupils will all be on hand to talk to you about what life is like at our amazing school, including our unique home education options.

Roselyon is widely recognised for producing outstanding educational results and these achievements have secured our position as the only ‘Sunday Times Top 100’ prep school in Cornwall in recent years. In our latest ISI Inspection, children’s attainment was rated ‘excellent’ and we are proud to have this confirmation that our children ‘attain notably high standards of literacy and numeracy, and have outstanding attitudes towards learning.’ Much of this success can be attributed to our small class size policy.

You can also find out more about our focus on outdoor learning, with Beach School, Woodland School, the numerous opportunities to learn on the farm adjacent to the school and a very broad range of outdoor co-curricular activities.

If you are looking for a prep school in Cornwall, do come along and see us on 18 May between 1oam and 12 noon. There is plenty of free parking and our site is fully accessible. To register your interest, call us on 01726 812110 or email your details to info@roselyonschool.com

Open Morning Update from the Head

Ahead of our Open Morning tomorrow (23 March), read a special update from our Head, Hilary Mann:

“Since opening our new and exciting site in Lanlivery in September 2018, Roselyon School has been providing a fabulous and stimulating learning environment for our pupils inside and outside the classroom. The site has been fully operational since it opened and we have been encouraged by the increasing level of interest that we have been receiving at the School.

We are looking forward to showcasing the new opportunities the School has to offer at our Open Day tomorrow (23 March) from 10am to 12 noon, which promises to be a very positive event and will provide prospective parents and pupils with an opportunity to tour the School’s fantastic facilities, meet the Head and the teaching staff and hear about the ‘Roselyon experience’.

Looking to the future, whilst the independent school sector is facing economic challenges, the positive interest that we have received recently is allowing us to prepare for the Summer Term ahead and for the Academic year 2019/20. We are confident that we can build on the strong foundations we have put in place for what is a supportive, exciting and unique environment for educating children.”

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

News from the British School Fencing Championships

Congratulations to our teams for their superb performances at last weekend’s British School Fencing Championships. We are most proud! Head coach Mr. Gayle provided this update:

“Amelia, Isla and Evie were the youngest fencers competing on the day, and they attracted a fair deal of attention with their good control of distance and clever bladework.

Jake, Will and Dylan began the day with determination, but a sense they would be meeting some very experienced and skillful teams on the piste. However, it became apparent from the start that we were performing better than expected in the first round of poules. A win in the first round of DE was a seminal moment for our team. A second win in the second round of DE against St Benedict’s was also completely unexpected, leaving us both euphoric and exhaused, with a two point lead at 45-43 with seconds left on the clock.

The boys finally went out in the third DE, securing second place in our table, and 7th overall. Superb results. Superb fencing. Superb competition. Thank you British Fencing Schools!”

High quality teaching for home-educated children in Cornwall

Are you looking to supplement your home education with direct high-quality teaching?

We can help with that! We offer home-educated children from Reception to Year 6 the option to attend any number of subjects taught here at our independent prep school in Cornwall, from French, Latin, Religious Studies and PHSE, through to Science, Art, Maths and English.

Roselyon is a small and friendly school, with experience in providing tailored solutions for home-educators. Our dedicated teaching staff and classroom assistants provide the maximum of time to each child. We believe strongly in praise and encouragement and ensure the children (and parents) are aware of the progress they are making.

Our fees are very competitive when compared to traditional home tutoring costs, and parents can choose to purchase as many or as few subjects as they choose. The only requirement is that subjects are purchased as a ‘half-term block’ (there are a set number of lessons a week and timetables will be discussed with you) and paid for in advance for half a term.

If you are interested, please do call us on 01726 812110 or email info@roselyonschool.com

Should you decide to proceed, you will need to provide us with a copy of the letter you have received from the Elective Home Educator’s office in Cornwall. The parent has responsibility for the provision of ‘efficient full-time education’ (Education Act 1996), and the Roselyon subjects will form part of that provision.

Fencing success for Roselyon children

We might only be a small prep school in Cornwall, but we have some future sporting champions among our children!

Roselyon is delighted to report that at the Leon Paul Junior Series Cornwall tournament in Truro last weekend, our fencing team achieved fantastic success.

In the U11 Boys Foil, congratulations go to Arlo who took the Gold Medal. His achievement was matched by Amelia in the U9 Girls Foil, also taking home a Gold Medal.

The medals did not stop there – Lily and Isla both took home Silver medals, while Bronze medals were claimed by Lola and Mini.

This was a brilliant day of fencing by all of our competitors – and certainly put Roselyon School on the map.

Churchtown Staff Reunion Event

There was a wonderfully warm atmosphere of reminiscence when former staff of Churchtown Farm returned for a special reunion event organised by Roselyon School last week.

The event attracted over 40 staff members who had all previously worked for Churchtown Farm and Activity Centre when it operated as a respite centre in the mid 1970s through to 2011, providing day services and holidays for young disabled people and youngsters with special educational needs.

Roselyon School staff and children were delighted to show guests and their families around the buildings and the facilities that the school has been enjoying since it relocated to Lanlivery, as well witness the reunion of friends and colleagues who had not seen each other for many years. Tea, cake and much news were shared by all!

“We all came away with a warm feeling of well being, knowing our beloved buildings are in very safe, and loving hands,” said Mel Millett, former Care Manager and Deputy Centre Manager at Churchtown Farm.

Hilary Mann, Head of Roselyon School, added, “It was such a pleasure to see so many people who hold this building dear and we were pleased that they were really impressed with the changes we have made. The spirit of the building lives on.”

Any staff of Churchtown who missed the reunion are most welcome to visit when they are in the area – the snowy weather on the day meant that many missed out, although we were most impressed by one tenacious visitor who travelled all the way from the Isle of Mull! Please phone 01726 812110 to arrange a look around.
